June blog. # 2
Fathers Day
I recently came across a couple of
writings that I sent to my father
before he passed away at 101 years old.
I was most blessed to have had such an
incredible man as my father.
Here are two of my correspondence
with him.
My Father
Fathers are one of the God's
best ideas
Being a father himself
He knows just what
they need
Unlimited patience
a kind of love that can
overlook spilled milk
Wisdom that sees over
childish pleading
yet gives a better gift
then what was asked for
at the time
Dad had it all
He could look that look
that made me run
to please him
And when I'd mess up
big
he stayed close by
to help me pick up
all the pieces
Father God
I take this special day
to thank you for my dad
You picked him out
of all the choices
placed me in his arms
and stood by close
to guide him
Always looking forward
to this place in time
when You look at him
and say
Well done
my good and faithful
servant.
Reflections
My father knew the names
of many trees and plants
I didn't realize that this
was a rare accomplishment
until I went for a walk
in the woods
with my husband
What's that called
I asked
I don't know
said he
What kind of tree is that
How should I know
And so it went
My dad knew them all
by name
And with his sharing
as we walked
his world of not so very
long ago intertwined
with mine
As plants and trees
we walked along
this sharing of what
eyes can see
set roots
placed memories
That miles of separation
can not erase
Dad had given me
eyes to see
that even without
knowing names
walking together
can share
loves eternal seed.

The Doldrums
June 2011 blog.
The Doldrums
Sometimes June can be a difficult month for me.
It brings a reminder that I am getting older [b. day month].
Most of my friends leave on vacations or go north for
their cooler summer digs. I choose to keep mostly indoors
out of the heat and sun. I didn't use to be bothered by this.
I would just find some water somewhere and dive right in.
These days the water would have to be calm, shallow
and quite warm to accommodate the present condition
of my skin and joints.
So, to cheer me up, I will tell about some of my blessings.
I can still breathe.
I have a wonderful husband and some of my family live
close by.
Then there's clean water, air-conditioning and lots of
delicious food.
Over and above it all, I have a constant Companion,
Holy Spirit, who lets me ease drop on the mind of God.
Pretty cool, hugh!
Some poems I wrote:
The Prescription
A cup of cheer
stir in two parts
laughter
twice a day
words of praise
Slathered with
equal parts
proclamation
of who is the
pain reliever for all
fallen down
Christ
the lifter off
of all despair.
Welcome Rest
Pleasant
is the presence
of the Lord
To speak
to hear His words
sitting by His side
Thanksgiving for the
simple things
For breath
and light
to recognize
what makes our lives
flow with expectation
One day
all will blend
and form a crown
A diadem
upon God's head
His reign to flow
and enter every
molecule
reshaping all of matter
into perfection
without end.
The Plan
Exploring forever
new wonders of creation
rolling into the distance
of possibilities unrestrained
by any shortcoming
Adventure only limited
when captured by beauty
so close
so breathtaking
that time does not exist
While contemplating
what kind of God
could remove all separations
and lead you to this very spot
as light and color flow together
in a symphony of passion
and beauty
Carried on Angels wings
into the very center
of burning love
that would incinerate anything
not already encapsuled in
immortality's garment
of praise
Which now rains down upon
the place where
the Ancient of Days has provided
a room that fits just perfect
in order to get a better view
of every moment's celebration
As multiplied riches
crowd His Majestic head
So I will struggle on a little farther
down this earth filled life
and sing a little louder of
His love
For I can hear Him calling
calling through uncertain
mist ahead
Walk this way my darling
faithful to the end
I will be beside you
all the way.
