April blog: # 2
Easter Joy
Happy memories of Easter as a child,
always the basket of goodies
and a colored egg hunt
followed by church and seeing friends.
All, all dressed up. Even some with
hats and gloves.
Now, with my family, daughter and granddaughter,
we celebrate with a family feast,
enjoying each other's company.
Take time to say a thank you, to the God
who gave us resurrection through his Son.
Let the joy that was set before Christ Jesus
be your Hallelujah for the day.
I include some Easter themed poems.
Death to Life
Birds singing
lead to thoughts of spring
To thoughts of resurrection
of flowers bloom
tulips and yellow capped
jonquils
with their capacity to
just keep popping up
spring after spring
Memories of Easter eggs
of hunts and chocolate
bunnies
of new hats and skirts
and pattened shoes
that look so pretty
and leave blisters close
to ankles
Then the morning's
Sunrise
that day that shocked
the world
that God did really come
and do what no one
ever really had a clearer
view of
than weeping women
who didn't recognize
at first
That He who spoke
the morning
was standing
right there in full view
That they would be
the first
to breathlessly
let it be known
That Jesus lives
has overcome
and made all things new
forever
on that first
most Holy
Easter morn'.
The Price
I asked the Lord
to protect me against those
who would have me removed
from my work
He delivered and defended me
But it was not without cost
They spat on Him
struck Him with fists
and slapped the Holy One of God
I asked the Lord to forgive me
for my sharp tongue
that often does not edify
He did
and He cleansed me
completely
But it was not without cost
They stripped Him
plaited a crown of thorns
and struck Him
again and again
I prayed to be healed
from my body of aching
and He healed me
But it was by
a great cost to Him
They had him flogged
I asked to be reconciled
to my heavenly Father
and to be with Him always
and it is so
But not without a price
He was crucified
nailed to a cross
and lifted up
in plain sight
of all of His enemies
and mine
He was forsaken
So when I pray
and bring my petitions
before the living
glorified
risen Christ
I must remember the cost
and the deep love
that is stamped
on His reply.
Give Voice
The songbird's call
reflects my heart
this morning
Let my voice join in
rejoicing
in what Christ means
to me
My desire
to loose that which
lies hidden
deep within
to speak Christ's name
forever
To sing with voice
and words
that show the depth
of loves true meaning
That though He died
an awful death
and for a brief time
all seemed void
of meaning
The song
that Resurrection
Morning brings
rings on and on
and echoes
free forever
What price Your love
has fully paid
Hear now
my love for You
sounding unrestrained
expressed in glad
Hosannas
full refrain.
