February Thoughts on Love

Valentine's Discovery

Does love wear a negligee
or does it stoop and wash
ones stinky feet
Does love make you feel good
after the one night stand
has left the toothpaste lid
on the floor
or is it leaving a third
of his dinner uneaten
so that his disabled wife
won't be left at the table alone
struggling with her knife and fork
Is the strength of love
demonstrated by
three dozen roses
left trailing up
the bedroom stairs
or is it making sure that
the toilet paper spool
never runs out
in the night
when that third trip
just can't wait
Love is not a sudden urge
It does not leave as soon as
the age defining lines appear
Love doesn't wave goodbye
as the sports car leaves
the assisted living facility
once a year
Love is an unexpected kiss
while pealing onions
It hands over the remote
without being asked
and it never never
runs out of passion
once desire turns to
companionship.
